Program dates: June 1st, 2026 – End date: August 6th, 2026
Location: NYC Hybrid (up to three days per week on-site)
Company laptop will be provided for the duration of the program.
Weekly schedule: 28 hours per week, 9:00am-5:00pm, with a one-hour lunch break.
Pay rate: $17.00/hour
As an HBG editorial intern at Orbit, you will have the opportunity to work closely with seasoned professionals and gain hands-on professional experience as you own day-to-day tasks, help with special projects, and attend departmental meetings.
Orbit’s hybrid summer intern will support our team by assisting editorial staff with projects. We are looking for a motivated individual who is eager to learn about the publishing industry and be part of a creative team.
To enhance your work experience, we offer educational sessions featuring speakers from all departments of the company as well as networking and career development opportunities.
Who you are:
- Interested in exploring a career in science-fiction and fantasy publishing
- Self-starter with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Enthusiastic and excited about discussing recent books you’ve read
- Possess a great attitude and a desire to learn as well as excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and contribute insights
- Resourceful with the ability to balance multiple responsibilities and work independently
- Must be results driven, and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as needed
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
What you will learn:
- Log, review, and draft feedback on manuscript submissions
- Assist with mailings and events as requested
- Perform general administrative duties
- Track and circulate sales numbers of top-performing genre titles
- Take minutes at weekly editorial meetings
- Draft descriptive copy
- Assist with and learn other editorial duties
